VejiRaziel made this excellent banner for it as she cleared the back-log (26APR2008), so I decided to re-link it. *shrug* Call me an attention-whore. I write mechasmut, I can take it! ;-)

Looking back on it later, Mirage would not be able to remember exactly how he came to be there. He left the Ark in a huff after yet another altercation with Cliffjumper. That little fragger just would not leave him be! After driving for a few minutes - or was it hours? - he heard the chanting and was both disturbed and drawn by it. He approached the source, disruptor engaged.

Come and be one, become one, be one, be! they sang.

Invisible, he knew the women did not see him as they continued to chant. There was a non-human presence with them. His optical sensors perceived only the woods, the women and their small items. His more delicate circuitry detected immense energy building, like that possessed by Vector Sigma: creative and watchful and knowing. It was coalescing before him, as if it were drawing itself together from the space surrounding the women, surrounding him.

We all come from the Goddess, and to Her we shall return, like a drop of rain falling, flowing to the ocean, the chant changed but the process going on around them continued. His optics insisted the scene remained as before: a circle of women, some holding candles, some holding tools, chanting and swaying slightly. He could not pinpoint the source of his certainty, but he knew there was another present.

One moment he was watching a tiny, silver-haired woman walk to the center of the circle and speak in a clear, ringing voice. The next, his entire processor was engulfed by that other being. He - no, She - spoke to him directly in his CPU: Mirage.

He no longer perceived the woods, the women, even the air around him or the ground beneath his feet. He perceived only the limits of his own frame and field, and that Other. She was before him, he could see Her now: She looked human, but scaled to match his height. He found Her beautiful, strong and shapely, which surprised him because he'd never thought about the aesthetics of a human form, and never really noticed an individual before except to recognize Sparkplug, Spike, Carly and Chip from the rest and each other. He brought his hands up warily, unsure of how to respond. He was half preparing to defend himself, half reaching out to the unidentified entity.

I am the beauty of the Green Earth, the White Moon among the Stars, the mystery of the Deep Waters, the desire of every Heart. She moved toward him, seeming to step gracefully into his reach. She took his hands in Hers. He felt Her field seep slowly into him, starting from that contact. It was more relaxing than the best hot-oil bath he'd ever had on Cybertron, more heady than the most successful hunt he'd ever undertaken, and more intimate than any interface he'd ever made. He felt completely exposed to Her, from the last molecule of his armor to the least-accessed part of his memory and the deepest flicker in his spark. She saw his strengths and successes, She saw his faults and failures, and She forgave him.

Mirage felt love.

Know the mystery, henceforth: if you find not what you seek within, you shall never find it without. For I have been with you from the beginning, and I am whom who you will find at the end of your desire. In the manner of a dream, he found their position had changed to an embrace. Her arms were around his chest, his around Her shoulders. The exquisite physical contact was nothing compared to the feeling of Her field permeating him. His field was not damped by the intrusion: it was cleansed, it was fired, it was freed.

Was She stimulating his sensors? He didn't know. Was She really in his arms or was She a ghost in his processor? He didn't care. He wanted the feelings to last forever. He basked in the sensations.

He would never know how long She was with him; it felt like an eternity, until it was over. She gently released him and began to move away, reversing the movement from embrace to lightly holding his hands in Hers. He felt bereft, thinking he would never encounter Her again, that She would leave him and he would return to the loneliness and isolation that had become his companions in this existence since the war destroyed his home.

She knew. All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. Whenever you extend kindness to another, I am there, and kindness will be returned to you. She laughed, and the sound in his spark was sweeter than anything in his experience. Start with the pugnacious one that tries so hard to win your attention! She released him, and started to dissipate, returning to the Earth from which She had risen. Mirage began to perceive the woods and the women again.

"Wait!" he exclaimed. "Who are you?"

Those who invoked me called me Inanna, Her voice grew fainter as She dispersed, so Inanna am I, tonight. You may continue to call me Primus.

So that’s where Primus is, we humans have been keeping them busy! And for a long time too, it seems like.

Oh, Raj...

This was lovely. =) I gasped aloud when Inanna called his name.

Thank you.

Here I was hoping the really creative souls in our community would create Cybertronian (or even *shudder* Quintesson) rituals... I'm limited to writing what I feel I know. Glad you like it.

I was hoping the same thing, but when I tried the challenge on, I drew a complete blank. I guess everyone else had the same problem.

That was... elegant. :) Bravo.

...Couldn't help remembering those old poems though, where that particular Goddess was portrayed as, ehm, a "tricky Vicky", to put it mildly. ...Ah, they musta been blatant yahoos, merely the likes of that Enkidu brute :)))

I mean to say, this is a nice challenge answer, and, to boot, with a backstory stemming from the land of the present-day Iraq.

Just wondering. If anyone could (did?) make something with fire and light-worshipping, rigidly dualistic Zoroastrian belief system, as well?

Yeah, lots of history with Inanna. I haven't seen many TF fics with a spiritual flair, but with Halloween/Samhain/All Saints' Day and all the winter holidays coming up, we might see more because challenges stick in people's heads even if they aren't actively entering.

Zoroastrian is definitely something I have not seen before.

That was beautiful. From what mythology does Inanna come from?I am familar with the names of most female deities from mythology and her name doesn't sound familiar.

Thank you.

Inanna is from Sumer, the Queen of Heaven. She was brave and willful and went after what she wanted, such as culture for her people and a trip to the Underworld wherein she was stripped of her symbols of power and hung for three days on a tree, dead, before being revived and returning home triumphant. She is invoked for inner strength and surviving challenges.

She is often named as The Star in the tarot, because the morning and evening stars are both her symbols.

YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

This is spectacular. I never expected to have a religious experience in the midst of Transformers smut. Foolish me. "All acts of love and pleasure are My rituals," indeed.

Wait---did she just tell him to go home and seduce Cliffjumper? I can see that explanation: "Hey, Cliffjumper, sorry about the fighting and everything; Primus just appeared to me and suggested I invite you to interface with me."

Heh. Although that would be hilarious, I doubt Mirage will take it quite that far. Simply acting reasonable toward Cliffjumper will do two things to make Mirage's life better. The first and most direct is making it no longer fun for Cliffjumper to pester him, so he'll move on to another amusement (probably with better feeling on both sides of that relationship). The second is undoubtedly catch someone else's attention who'll notice and go "Hmm. Mirage might be okay to talk to after all." Who that will be and how far that might go, I still don't know. But that is how I have found it to work.

"What ye send forth comes back to thee." Don't ever doubt it.

Mmmmhmmm.

OTOH, Cliffjumper might be pestering him as a way of flirting, as if he partially wants Mirage's attention for that . . . and now I'm being attacked by Cliffjumper/Mirage plotbunnies . . . and I have fragging Megatron/Bluestreak bunnies! Megatron/Bluestreak! FLUFFY Megatron/Bluestreak! And about seventy-three others, besides. *glares at the mass of assembled bunnies*

"What ye send forth comes back to thee."

So very true.

CJ/Mirage can work. Have a carrot! Or a bag of rabbit kibble.

And how about a change of diet for that mutant clutch of cross-faction bunnies? Try this on: Megatron and Blue knew each other before the war and only ended up on opposite sides because Blue knows it was the Decepticons who actually destroyed his family. Pre-existing relationship (so no rape, please) and a source of tension in that Blue always wonders if Megatron himself ordered the attack, or even knew about it in advance. Perhaps he didn't, and tries in his own weird way to make it up to Blue every time they are alone, tries to win him over, even. And both pray to Primus that no one else will ever know they find ways to meet.

Ooooh, I never thought of that! *gingerly welcomes new bunny* I have Megatron catching Bluestreak in a playful/horny mood (Megatron, that is) and deciding to throw the war aside for the moment and indulge his curiosity about whether mechs with doorwings can overload from just having the doorwings stimulated.

And then I have a similar theme with (movieverse) Bumblebee, minus the doorwings but still with the playful!Megatron, and sometime after both of these scenarios, Megatron comes to the Autobot base because he has something important to discuss with Prime, who is away with ALL his senior staff cleaning up after some Sideswipe-related mayhem and Bumblebee and Bluestreak have declared themselves in charge and taken over Prime's office . . . at which point Megatron shows up, history comes out, and Prime comes back in a not-too-happy mood to find two of his soldiers tag-team interfacing with Megatron on top of his desk. Not sure what happens next.
